Uploading and Downloading To and From Your Computer

When the data set is created in the memory of the Stockweigh Datamaster Indicator, each record is stored on one 24
character line. The four fields - weight ,Ident, hash & coding are each separated by a space. This information can easily
be transferred to an IBM compatible computer without the need for any special software. All that is required is a lead to
connect the Stockweigh Datamaster Indicator to the computer via a serial port on the computer and the computer port
on the Stockweigh Datamaster Indicator.

The data set is transferred as a text file to your hard disc for further processing. There are a number of ways to transfer
this information.

You can transfer the files using DOS. The steps are as follows:

1. Connect the Stockweigh Datamaster to a serial port on the computer. Most computers have at least 2 serial
ports (with the exception of some notebooks which may only have 1 )and these are called COM1 and COM2
respectively. You can use either, but you must specify which one you have chosen when setting up the COMS
port (explained later).

2. On the Stockweigh Datamaster:
Select a data set to upload using F2. When you have chosen one, press ENTER. Press F7 and the UPLOAD
DATA SET command will appear. DO NOT PRESS ENTER YET.

3. On the Computer:

A. Quit from any multitasking programs such as Windows. You will be presented with the DOC Prompt-C:\>

B. Type MODE COM1:9600,n,8,1,p exactly as shown and press ENTER. A message such as Aresident portion
of mode loaded@ may appear or the command may just be echoed to the screen depending on the version of
DOS being used. If you are using the COM2 port then COM1 in the command should be replaced by COM2.

C. Next type COPY COM1:FILENAME.TXT exactly as shown and press ENTER. The cursor will drop down to
the next line and sit there waiting. Remember to change the COM1 if you are using a different serial port. Also,
the filename can be anything, as long as it adheres to the usual DOS file naming conventions.

4. On the Stockweigh Datamaster:
Press ENTER. The Stockweigh Datamaster should now read UPLOADING............n where n is the number of
records in the data set decrementing to zero. When the last record has counted off, a message - 1 file(s) copied
should appear on the computer screen.

You can now use this text file in a number of different applications explained later.

Downloading using DOS

There may be times when you wish to get information from your computer into the Stockweigh Datamaster
Indicator. Say, for example, you have erased all data sets from the Stockweigh Datamaster Indicator and then
realise you want to do a weight gain based on a file you have in your computer. For best results, the text file
containing the information should be in the format specified in Appendix A. Pay particular attention to the
character positions and justification. (Take a look at an upload file as an example).

Set up the parameters in the same way as you would when uploading. Then, type COPY

FILENAME.TXTCOM1: As you will see, the command is almost exactly the reverse of the uploading

command.

Don=t press Enter on the computer yet.
