SERVICING
WHEN SERVICING
1. Set the Parking brake (push down hard on the upper portion of the brake pedal until it locks in place.)
2. Remove key from switch.
3. Turn off Master disconnect Switch. Do not work on motor while connected to batteries.
4. Keep smoking materials, flame or sparks away from batteries.
5. Never connect or disconnect either the batteries or any electrical component while the key is in the
switch.
6. When connecting the battery cables, pay particular attention to their polarities. Never confuse the positive
posts with the negative posts.
INSULATED WRENCH
1. Use insulated wrenches and be careful not to allow wrenches to contact metal areas of vehicle while
working on battery terminals. Observe battery polarity when reinstalling cables.
2. Using an insulated wrench, remove all wires from the vehicle batteries.
3. Wrapping a wrench with electrical tape will work, make sure no bare metal is showing.
BATTERY
Batteries normally produce explosive gases which can cause personal injury. Do not allow flames, sparks or any
ignited object to come near the battery. When charging or working near battery, always shield your eyes and
always provide proper ventilation.
Avoid hazards by:
1. Filling batteries in well-ventilated areas.
2. Wear eye protection and rubber gloves.
3. Remove the batteries using a battery carrying tool.
4. Avoid breathing fumes when electrolyte is added.
5. Avoid spilling or dripping electrolyte.
Battery Electrolyte is an acidic solution and should be handled with care. If electrolyte is
splashed on any part of your body, flush all contact areas immediately with liberal
amounts of water. Get medical attention immediately.
Batteries are heavy and care should be taken when removing them. Be careful to lift the
batteries with out tipping them. Electrolyte could spill, which could cause burns or
damage to the skin, clothing and vehicle.
BATTERY CHARGING
1. Check the electrolyte covers and plates in all cells.
2. Charging must be performed in a well ventilated area.
3. Inspect the charge DC plug for loose wires and damage.
4. Inspect the vehicle receptacle for loose wires or damage. Located on the lower left panel in front of the
seat.
5. Insert plug fully into receptacle and check that the connection is tight.
6. Be careful not to pull on the DC cord or place it in a position where it can be driven over or present a
hazard to personnel working in the area.
