SHARK™ IAD User’s Guide

LOG

log message_string
Adds the message in the message_string argument to the SHARK™ IAD
diagnostic log. message_string is limited to 250 characters.

LOGLEVEL

loglevel [level]
Displays or modifies the types of log messages you want the SHARK™ IAD to
record. It is generally used as a temporary debug tool to observe the messages
desired without resetting the router module. If you enter the loglevel command
without the optional level argument, the command line interface displays the
current loglevel setting. You can enter the loglevel command with the level
argument to specify the types of diagnostic messages you want to record. This
command will temporarily affect the loglevel until another loglevel command is
issued or until a coldstart router command is issued. If a coldstart router
command is issued, the loglevel will return to the state saved in the router
configurator. To permanently change the loglevel see the diagnostic-level
command on page 6-34. All m
essages that have a level number equal to or
greater than the level you specify are recorded. For example, if you specify
loglevel of high, the diagnostic log will retain high-level informational
messages, warnings, and failure messages.

See Table 1 for the Level argument.

Table 1:

System Configuration Diagnostic Log Options

Level #

Level
Description

Description

L1

low

Low-level informational messages or greater; includes trivial status
messages and development debug messages. This level is not
recommended for field use!

L2

medium

Medium-level informational messages or greater; includes status messages
that can help monitor network traffic, most test and configuration
messages, and internal bus communication data.

L3

high

High-level informational messages or greater; includes user configuration
data; user entered messages, module detection, and other status messages
that may be significant but do not constitute errors.

L4

warning

Warnings or greater; which may be cause of failures, and does not
necessarily indicate failure (recommended).

L5

failure

Failures i.e.: internal com and processor errors, hardware failures including
messages describing error conditions that may not be recoverable.

WARNING: The lower the loglevel the greater the affect on the performance of the router.

Generally, because more information is being tracked and stored into the log.
The lower levels may greatly affect router performance.
