3-10 Motor Direction Check

Compressors

Compressors will run properly in either direction.

Water Pumps

Correct pump rotation is indicated by a positive pressure of 20 to 30 psi on the pump pressure
gauge. Pump rotation should be clockwise when viewed from the motor end. See the following
section.

On Glacier Series portable chillers with special order oversized pumps, check the appropriate
pump curve in Figures 7 and 8 on Page xx.
Condenser Fan

Air should be drawn through the condenser and discharged vertically from the chiller. See the
following section.

To change rotation direction:

• Disconnect and lock out power at the fused disconnect.
• Reverse any two motor leads at the power source.
• Do not switch leads at the motor or motor starters.

3-11 Water Reservoir

Glacier Series Portable Chillers are shipped with an antifreeze solution to protect against freeze-
up damage in transit. The reservoir has a solution of 70% water and 30% ethylene glycol during
the summer months and 50% water and 50% ethylene glycol during the winter months.

During startup and when additional solution is required, refer to the ethylene glycol curve in
Figure 20 on Page xx. Add a pre-mixed solution of industrial quality (not automotive) ethylene
glycol (AEC Part No. A0538024) and water to provide freeze protection to a temperature 20°F
below normal chiller operating temperature.

For corrosion protection, an inhibitor suitable for the protection of the materials in the system
should be added. If straight water use is desired, contact the AEC, Inc. Engineering Department.

Caution!

Do not connect makeup water directly to the chilled water reservoir

unless you have an approved automatic water makeup system installed.

See Section 3-12 on Page xx for more information.
