Introduction to PPP traffic statistics collection

PPP can generate traffic-based accounting statistics on each PPP link. The statistics include the amount of

the inbound and outbound information (in terms of bytes and the number of the packets) on a link. The

information can be used by AAA application modules for accounting and control purpose.

Enabling PPP user binding

Introduction to PPP user binding

Without knowing the domain of each use in advance, the PPP user binding function can bind users from

different domains to different virtual-template (VT) interfaces. The PPP user binding function works as

follows:

Because the system does not know the domain of each user in advance, the system must
authenticate the users. After a user passes the authentication, the system obtains the user’s domain,

which is related to the user authentication result. For more information, see the related sections

above.

After the user passes the authentication, if the interface is enabled with PPP user binding, the
function binds the user to the specified VT interface according to the configured PPP user binding

rule and the obtained domain name. Then, the function creates Virtual-Access (VA) interfaces based
on the VT interface, and performs network layer protocol negotiation and receives/sends packets

on the VA interfaces.
