The picture was taken from measurements in a block of fi ve identical apart-
ment buildings with 9 apartments each. One easily can see that consumption
differs by almost a factor 10. this seems only partly depend on the position of
the apartments in the buildings. It is much more infl uenced by the behavior of
different users. User infl uence seems in certain building types one of the major
causes of energy wasting.
The visualization of relative consumption data on the basis of units of com-
parable useage is a way to motivate users to control behavior and to discuss
behavioral changes. Wireless counters for heat consumption allow collecting
data on a room base. However the publication of such data requires protecting
privacy too.
