Description

Steering units with wide
angle features have been
developed to significantly
reduce or eliminate the jerky
motion of vehicles with
articulated steering systems.
This has been accomplished
by increasing the maximum
deflection of the spool
relative to the
sleeve. Increasing the
deflection reduces the gain.
This in turn reduces
acceleration and jerk levels
and provides overall
smoother vehicle
performance. The steering
still responds fast enough so
the operator does not notice
the reduced gain.

Benefits

• Minimizes jerking

motion on medium and
large articulated
vehicles.

• Jerk reducing valves and

accumulators can be
eliminated on most
vehicles.

• Avaliable on Series 10,

Series 20 (standard),
and Series 25.

• Eliminates need for

cushion valves

Applications

• Articulated Vehicles

Wide Angle Steering Control Units Patent No. 5080135

These graphs show a computer simulation of the jerk levels and have been verified by
actual vehicle tests.
