What

your

server

offers

The

design

of

your

server

takes

advantage

of

advancements

in

symmetric

multiprocessing

(SMP),

data

storage,

disk-array

technologies,

and

memory

management.

Your

server

combines:

Diagnostics,

Chipkill

memory,

Analysis

(PFA),

and

the

Advanced

processor.

v

Impressive

performance

using

SMP

Your

server

supports

up

to

two

Intel

Xeon

microprocessors.

Your

server

comes

with

at

least

one

microprocessor

installed;

if

it

comes

with

one

microprocessor,

you

can

install

an

additional

microprocessor

to

enhance

performance

and

provide

SMP

capability.

v

Large

data-storage

and

hot-swap

capabilities

All

models

of

the

server

support

up

to

six

25.4

mm

(1-inch)

slim-high,

3.5-inch

hot-swap

hard

disk

drives

in

the

hot-swap

bays.

This

hot-swap

feature

enables

you

to

add,

remove,

or

replace

hard

disk

drives

without

turning

off

the

server.

v

Active

PCI

(hot-plug)

adapter

capabilities

Your

server

has

two

hot-plug

slots

for

peripheral

component

interconnect

(PCI)

adapters.

With

operating

system

support,

you

can

replace

failing

hot-plug

PCI

adapters

without

turning

off

the

server.

You

can

also

add

PCI

adapters

in

these

slots

without

turning

off

the

server,

if

the

operating

system

and

the

adapter

support

the

hot-add

feature.

v

Redundant

cooling

and

power

capabilities

The

redundant

cooling

and

hot-swap

capabilities

of

the

fans

in

your

server

enable

continued

operation

if

one

of

the

fans

fails.

You

can

also

replace

a

failing

fan

without

turning

off

the

server.

Some

models

of

the

server

come

with

two

hot-swap

560-watt

power

supplies.

The

two

hot-swap

power

supplies

provide

redundant

power

for

many

server

configurations.

If

a

problem

occurs

with

one

of

the

power

supplies,

the

other

power

supply

can

handle

the

load.

The

NONREDUNDANT

light-emitting

diode

(LED)

on

the

diagnostic

LED

panel

is

lit

when

a

problem

is

detected

with

one

of

the

redundant

hot-swap

power

supplies.

For

models

that

come

with

one

fixed

560-watt

power

supply,

a

hot-swap

power-supply

option

containing

two

hot-swap

560-watt

power

supplies

is

available;

you

can

replace

the

fixed

power

supply

with

the

hot-swap

power-supply

option

to

provide

redundancy.

(See

the

Option

Installation

Guide

on

the

xSeries

Documentation

CD

for

v

Large

system

memory

Your

server

supports

up

to

6

of

system

memory.

The

memory

(ECC)

support

for

modules

(DIMMs).

The

memory

controller

also

provides

Chipkill

Memory

protection

if

all

DIMMs

are

of

the

type

x4.

Chipkill

Memory

protection

is

a

technology

that

protects

the

server

from

a

single

chip

failure

on

a

DIMM.

v

System-management

capabilities

Your

server

comes

with

an

integrated

system

management

processor

(ISMP)

and

support

for

the

Remote

Supervisor

Adapter.
