TROUBLESHOOTING (Continued)

BROKEN CROSS OR

Load too high for joint.

Use protective device with joint.

CUPS

Check joint angles and phasing.
Slow down or raise Cutter.

END GALLING OF

Speed too high.

Operate at proper speed (540 or 1000 rpm).

CROSS AND CUPS

Ears have deformed.

Install thrust washer.

NEEDLE ROLLERS

Load too high for joint.

Check for small joint angles.

HAVE BRINELLED

Use protective device.

INTO CUP AND CROSS

Check joint angles and phasing.

SHAFT OR TUBE

Over-loaded.

Replace part and then slow down or

TWISTED

or raise Cutter.
Use protective device.

TUBE BROKEN IN

Over-loaded.

Replace part.

WELDED SEAM

YOKE BROKEN AT

Over-loaded.

Replace part.

EAR TIP

GEARBOX NOISY

Improper backlash.

Refer to Maintenance Section

Rough gears.

Wear in or change Gears.

Worn Bearing.

Replace Bearing.

SLIP CLUTCH

Excessive load.

Reduce speed and/or raise

SLIPPING

Mower.

EXCESSIVELY

Springs weak.

Replace Springs.

Improper adjustment.

Re-adjust Slip Clutch.

Too much power for

Friction Facings worn.

Replace Facings.

Clean with emery cloth.

OIL BLOWING

Flat bottomed Vent Plug

Replace with proper Vent Plug,

OUT VENT PLUG

or shallow cavity Plug.

Cavity in Oil Plug should be
approximately 5/8".

Oil level too high.

Lower oil level to Plug.
