Still pictures

Play fails to start even when
[

] (PLAY) is pressed.

Play starts but then stops
immediately.

pInsert the disc correctly with the label facing up.
pThe disc is dirty.
pYou tried to play a blank disc or unplayable disc on this unit.
pYou tried to play +RW that needs to be finalized on the equipment used for recording.
pWhen recording to DVD-RAM using EP (8H) mode, play may not be possible on DVD players

that are compatible with DVD-RAM. In this case use EP (6H) mode.

pYou cannot play discs during DV camcorder recording.

Audio and video momentarily
pause.

pThis occurs between playlist chapters.
pThis occurs between chapters and with partially deleted titles on +RW, finalized DVD-R,

DVD-R DL, DVD-RW (DVD-Video format), +R and +R DL that have been copied using the
high speed mode.

pThis occurs as scenes change during Quick View.
pWhen playing a title recorded on both layers of a DVD-R DL or +R DL, video and audio may

momentarily cut out when the unit is switching layers.



DVD-Video is not played.

pYou have set a ratings level to limit DVD-Video play. Change this setting.

Alternative soundtrack and
subtitles cannot be selected.

pThe languages are not recorded on the disc.
pYou may have to use the disc’s menus to select languages.

No subtitles.

pWhen progressive output is on, closed captions cannot be displayed.
pSubtitles are not recorded on the disc.
pSet “Subtitle” on the on-screen menu to “On”.

Angle cannot be changed.

pAngles can only be changed during scenes where different angles are recorded.

You have forgotten your
ratings password.
You want to cancel the ratings
level.

pWhile the disc tray is open, press [DRIVE SELECT] to select DVD drive then press and hold

[

q REC] and [ C1.3] on the main unit at the same time for 5 or more seconds. (“INIT” will

appear on the unit’s display). The ratings level returns to “8”.

Quick View does not work.

pThis does not work when audio is other than Dolby Digital.
pThis does not work when recording is in XP or FR mode.


The resume play function
does not work.

pThe stopped position is cleared when:

–You press [

w] several times.

–You open the tray.

[DVD-A] [CD] [VCD] You turn the unit off.

Cannot format.

pThe disc is dirty. Wipe with a damp cloth and then wipe dry.
pYou tried formatting a disc that is not compatible with this unit.

Cannot create chapters.

Cannot mark the start point or
the end point during
“Shorten Title” operation.

pThe unit writes the chapter division information to the disc when you turn it off or remove the

disc. The information is not written if there is an interruption to the power before this.

pThese operations are not possible with still pictures.
pYou cannot set points if they are too close to each other. You cannot set an end point before a

start point.


Cannot delete chapters.

pWhen the chapter is too short to erase, use “Combine Chapters” to make the chapter longer.

The available recording space
doesn’t increase even after
deleting recordings on the
disc.

pAvailable recording space on DVD-R, DVD-R DL, +R or +R DL does not increase even after

erasing previously recorded titles.

pAvailable recording space on DVD-RW (DVD-Video format) or +RW increases only when the

last recorded title is erased. It does not increase if other titles are erased.

Cannot create a playlist.

pYou cannot select all the chapters at once in a title if the title also includes still pictures. Select

them individually.

Cannot display Direct
Navigator screen.

pThis screen cannot be displayed during recording or copying.

Cannot edit or format a card.

pRelease the card’s protection setting. (With some cards, the “Write Protection Off” message

sometimes appears on the screen even when protection has been set.)

The contents of the card
cannot be read.

pThe card format is not compatible with the unit. (The contents on the card may be damaged.)

Format using FAT 12 or FAT 16 with other equipment or format the card with this unit.

pThe card contains a folder structure and/or file extensions that are not compatible with this

unit.

pTurn off and then turn on the unit again.
pYou can use SD Memory Cards with capacities from 8MB to 2GB on this unit.

Copying, deleting and setting
protection takes a long time.

pWhen there are a lot of folders and files, it may sometimes take a few hours.
pWhen repeating copying or deleting, it may sometimes take a long time. Format the disc or

card.

Scheduled recording began in
the middle of editing a still
picture.

pIf it comes to the time scheduled for recording, the recording may start even though you are

editing.
