5.19 Travelling machinery

The travelling machinery provides the cross-travelling motion of the trolley. The traveling machinery
consists of a squirrel-cage motor and a gearbox. The motor can be either a 2-speed motor, controlled by
contactors or a 1-speed motor controlled by an inverter. The 1-speed motors have a built-in compact
brake, whereas the 2-speed motors are equipped with an external electro-mechanical brake. The
gearbox comprises multistage spur gear transmission, running in grease lubrication. When used in
conformance with the operating group classification of the hoist, the gearbox lubricant does not need to
be changed during the Safe Working Period (SWP). If the hoist is operated in extremely cold conditions,
the factory-installed grease must be replaced with synthetic transmission grease. Refer to the section
“Lubricants” for further instructions.
