Teflon Sensor Covers

CI-6549

Introduction

The PASCO Model CI-6549 Teflon* FEP Sensor Cover
(Package of 10) is designed to be used with a PASCO temper-
ature sensing device (such as the CI-6605 Temperature Sen-
sor, the RTD Temperature Sensor, the PS-2125 PASPORT
temperature sensor, or the Type K Thermocouple). (*Teflon is
DuPont’s registered trademark for its fluoropolymer resins.)

The cover is twelve inches long and has a 0.25” inside diame-
ter. One end is sealed. The cover can be used to completely
cover the sensor when it is used in strong chemicals. Carefully
open the unsealed end and insert the sensor. (You may want to
cut the Teflon cover to a shorter length, depending on the sen-
sor being used.)

The Chemical Resistance Classification for Teflon FEP is “E”
(excellent) for a wide range of chemicals (from Acetaldehyde
to Zinc Stearate), meaning that there is no damage during 30
days of constant exposure to the reagent at 20°C. (See the
Chemical Resistance Chart.)

NOTE: The Teflon cover may cause the
temperature sensing device to have a slower
response to changes in temperature. The following figure shows tem-

perature versus time for two Temperature Sensors, one with the Teflon
cover, plunged into ice water and then into boiling water.

To improve response to temperature changes, make sure the
end of the sensor is in close contact with the inside of the
cover. One way to do this is to press the end of the sensor on a
hard surface such as a table top to flatten the cover against the
end of the sensor. The Teflon cover is reusable. Be sure to
rinse off all chemicals before storing the cover or sensor.
