Introduction

The PASCO Model SF-9569A Student Ammeter is a
rugged yet sensitive instrument designed specifically
for student experiments. It has three ranges and is
switch selectable by input jack to measure AC and DC
values. All ranges are overload protected.

Operation

To zero the meter:

Place the meter in the position (vertical or horizontal)
in which it will be used. Disconnect the meter. Use a
small, standard blade screwdriver to turn the Zero
Adjust Screw (located on the casebelow the meter) until
the meter needle is aligned with the zero on the scale.

NOTE: If the meter is zeroed in one position
and then the position is changed, it may need to
be zeroed again.

To measure current:
① Set the selection switch for AC or DC current.

(The AC setting will provide RMS readings for al-
ternating current circuits.)

② Determine the range; for both AC and DC mea-

surements, current may be measured in one of
three ranges: 0.05, 0.5 and 5 Amperes. The range
is selected by plugging leads into the appropriate
input jack.

NOTE: To protect the meter, always choose

a current that is higher than the highest current
you might expect in the circuit.

Use leads (not included) to connect the circuit at
the point where the current measurement is desired.

For AC measurements –

Plug one lead of the circuit into the black input
jack and the other into the red input jack of the ap-
propriate range.

For DC measurements –

Connect the leads in such a way that positive current
flows into the black (0) connector on the Ammeter.

Now you can read the current on the meter. A full
swing of the needle corresponds to the value in the
chosen range selection (i.e., On the 5 A scale, a
reading of 3.0 indicates a current of 3.0 A; on the
0.05 A scale this reading would mean a current of
30 mA).
