3. Configure the Radio Settings field to assign a channel, antenna diversity setting, radio transmit

power level and data rate.

Placement

Use the Placement drop-down menu to specify whether the radio is located
outdoors or indoors. Default placement depends on the country of
operation selected for the Mobility 5181 Access Point.

MAC Address

The Mobility 5181 Access Point, like other Ethernet devices, has a unique,
hardware encoded Media Access Control (MAC) or IEEE address. MAC
addresses determine the device sending or receiving data. A MAC address
is a 48-bit number written as six hexadecimal bytes separated by colons.
For example: 00:A0:F8:24:9A:C8. For additional information on access
point MAC address assignments, see

“Mobility 5181 Access Point MAC

address assignment”

on page 21.

Radio Type

The Radio Type parameter simply displays the radio type as 802.11a or
802.11b/g. This field is read only and always displays the radio type
selected from the Mobility 5181 Access Point menu tree under the Radio
Configuration item.

ERP Protection

Extended Rate PHY (ERP) allows 802.11g Clients to interoperate with
802.11b only Clients. ERP Protection is managed automatically by the
access point and informs users when 802.11b Clients are present within
the access point’s coverage area. The presence of 802.11b Clients within
the 802.11g coverage area negatively impacts network performance, so
this feature should looked to as an indicator of why network performance
has been degraded.
