Farm Hand Heat Zone

5

The Heat Zone can also be connected directly a personal computer running the Farm Manager
software. See Section 9.1 for a wiring diagram. In this case the Network Address of the Heat
Zone must be between eight (8) and 32 and be unique as required. For additional information
on the HH.Net and Farm Manager see Hired Hand document Number 4801-5049.

When connected to a local network or to the HH.Net, there are two LEDs on the Heat Zone
circuit board that indicate the status of communications. The Receive LED is lighted red
when receiving data over the network connection. (Note: This LED may appear to be on
continuously. The Transmit LED is lighted red when transmitting to a Master controller or
the Farm Manager. See Section 9.2 for the location of these LEDs.

6. Program Mode

Settings that are usually set up once per growout, or maybe even just for summer or winter are referred
to as program parameters and are accessed by taking the controller to program mode. Some examples
of these settings are Zone On points and Off points and Sensor Calibration. To get to program mode,
press and hold the “Mode” button for five seconds. When the controller has entered program mode,
the main display will flash between “P1” and the value of this parameter.

The “P1” is known as a parameter number. All the program items for the controller have a parameter
number assigned to them. The numbers are listed in the section called “Program Reference” in the
back of this manual with a short description of each parameter.

When in the program mode, the current parameter is changed by using the Plus (+) and Minus (-)
buttons as needed. When you have finished with the current setting, press the “Mode” button to move
to the next parameter. Look at the zone status indicators. If the light for zone 1 is lit, the parameter
being programmed is for zone 1. To go to zone 2, continue to press the mode button until the zone 2
indicator LED is lit.

6.1 Zone

Parameters

The following parameters are used to program each zone on the Farm Hand Heat Zone
Controller. Through these parameters, the user has complete control over the operation of
each stage. The following section explains each parameter.

P1 = Metric or English Units

P4 = Zone On Point

P5 = Zone Off Point

6.1.1 Temperature Units (P1)

The zone parameter (P1) sets the type of temperature units displayed in the indicator.
P1 options are as follows:

ON = Metric

Temperature is displayed in degrees Celsius.

OFF = English

Temperature is displayed in degrees Fahrenheit.

6.1.2 Stage On Points (P4)

The On Point setting is the temperature at which a stage turns on. (i.e. the
temperature at which an ignition signal is transmitted by the controller. The On
Point settings for the Heat Zone controller will always be less than the target
temperature.
