The.loggers.monitor.the.water.mains.for.acoustic.noise.
during.the.nighttime.hours.when.the.system.is.in.its.
most.“quiet”.state..Our.system.is.designed.to.listen.at.
2:00.a.m...If.the.logger.hears.a.nearby.water.leak.in.
the.main,.it.listens.again.an.hour.later.to.be.sure.that.
what.it.heard.was.not.an.anomaly.in.the.system..If.it.
hears.the.leak.again.at.3:00.a.m.,.data.is.sent.to.the.
wired.AMR/AMI.endpoint,.which.in.turn.broadcasts.this.
data..
The.endpoint.broadcasts.its.unique.serial.number.as.
usual..In.its.reading.field,.it.sends.the.Permalog.data.
stating.if.a.leak.is.present.in.the.area.or.not..The.AMR/
AMI.transmissions.are.picked.up.during.the.normal.
meter.reading.process..Once.back.at.the.utility,.this.
data.is.put.into.a.report.generated.from.ReadCenter ® .
software..The.ReadCenter.report.shows.all.the.leak.
loggers.that.are.reporting.a.leak.condition...
Normally.a.leak.is.picked.up.between.two.loggers..
From.the.report,.the.utility.can.use.leak.correlators.
and.ground.microphones.to.pinpoint.the.exact.location.
of.the.water.main.leak..This.process.increases.the.
efficiency.of.the.utility's.leak.detection.program.and.
also.pinpoints.the.location.of.leaks.requiring.repair.
