Configure Device menu
Use the CONFIGURE DEVICE menu to change or reset the default print settings, to adjust the print
quality, and to change the system configuration and I/O options. The five CONFIGURE DEVICE sub-
menus are described in the sections below.
Printing sub-menu
These settings affect only jobs that do not have identified properties. Most jobs identify all of the
properties and override the values that are set from this menu. This menu can also be used to set the
default paper size and type.
Menu item Values Description
COPIES 1-32,000 Sets the default number of copies. The default number of copies is 1.
DEFAULT PAPER
SIZE A list of available sizes
appears. Sets the default paper size.
DEFAULT CUSTOM
PAPER SIZE UNIT OF MEASURE
X DIMENSION
Y DIMENSION
Sets the default size for any custom job without dimensions. Available
for tray 1.

ON
Enables or disables the duplex function (automatic 2-sided printing).
The default is OFF. You can override this setting in the printer driver.
DUPLEX BINDING

LONG EDGE
SHORT EDGE
Defines whether a duplex job will be flipped on the long edge or the short
edge. You can override this setting in the printer driver.
OVERRIDE A4/

Sets the printer to print an A4 job on letter-size paper when no A4 paper
is loaded, or to print a letter-size job on A4 when no letter-size paper is
loaded. The default is NO.
MANUAL FEED OFF
ON
The default is OFF. Setting it to ON makes MANUAL FEED the default
for jobs that do not select a tray. You can override this setting in the
printer driver.
COURIER FONT
(HP Color LaserJet
3000 and 3800 Series
printers only).
REGULAR
DARK
Selects a version of the Courier font. The default is REGULAR.
WIDE A4
(HP Color LaserJet
3000 and 3800 Series
printers only)
NO
YES
Sets the printable area of A4 paper so that eighty 10-pitch characters
can be printed on a single line. The default is NO.
PRINT PS ERRORS
(HP Color LaserJet
3000 and 3800 Series
printers only)

ON
Select ON to print emulated PostScript (PS) error pages. The default
is OFF.
