5. Why is this service a software service, wouldn't the zones be more stable
in hardware?
The Fabric retains the Zoning specification in two ways:
■ Information persists until it is deleted or changed.
■ Zoning information is recorded in the Switch’s flash memory.

■ Administration
■ Zoning Enforcement
■ Zoning Management
■ Zoning Backup.
Administration
Zoning management functions:
■ Creation
■ Deletion
■ Display of deleted/changed by any zone
■ Addition and deletion of zone members
■ Display of zone members for all zones, or by individual zone or
configuration
■ Creation of aliases
■ Configuration of a set of zones
■ Creation of temporary zones.
Zoning Enforcement
Zone enforcement is by Simple Name Server.
