Finding a Bad Hard Disk Drive Using the Disk Locator Tool

In this example, Toptools has notified you that a drive has gone bad in a Netserver located in another building. You
need to identify which drive has failed and tell the on-site technician which drive to hot swap.

1.

Open a Toptools console session.


2.

Open the Device Selector and double-click on the server with the alert.


3.

When the server's identity page is loaded, click on the Status tab. To verify the alert, click the Hard Disk
Status
button to see on which drive the alert has occurred.


Upon identifying the failed drive, click on the ALARM link to view the failure message for that drive (see next
figure).
