Explanation

XP Thin Provisioning V-VOLs

XP Thin Provisioning V-VOLs

You can use this combination,

but you cannot resynchronize the

pair by performing Quick Restore

operations.

XP Thin Provisioning V-VOLs

Normal volumes

The same as above.

Normal volumes

Note:

Normal volumes are internal

volumes and external volumes.

External volumes are mapped to

internal volumes by External Storage

and exist in external storage systems.

In the current microcode version,

you cannot use external volumes

in pools. For details on external

volumes, see HP StorageWorks

XP24000 External Storage Software

User’s Guide.

XP Thin Provisioning V-VOLs

The same as above.
Since this combination consumes the

same amount of pool capacity as

the normal volume (that is, P-VOL)

capacity, this combination is not

recommended.

Note*

: You cannot specify an XP Thin Provisioning pool-VOL as a Business Copy P-VOL or S-VOL.

Disk/Cache Partition

You can assign V-VOLs and pool-VOLs to Disk/Cache Partition SLPRs and CLPRs with the following

restrictions:

All pool VOLs in a pool must be allocated to the same CLPR.

HP recommends that V-VOLs and the pool associated with the V-VOLs be allocated to the same

CLPR.

Note

: A CLPR is allocated to an SLPR. Therefore, V-VOLs and pools that are allocated to the same CLPR

are also allocated to the same SLPR.
For more information, see HP StorageWorks XP24000 Disk/Cache Partition User's Guide.

XP Snapshot

When you use both XP Thin Provisioning and XP Snapshot in a storage system, be careful of the following

points:

You cannot use pools for XP Thin Provisioning as pools for XP Snapshot, and vice versa.
