Firmware Maintenance CD-ROM – Download the component to create a bootable CD-ROM
that contains many firmware updates for ProLiant servers and options.

Scripting with CPQLOCFG – Download CPQLOCFG component to get the network-based
scripting utility, CPQLOCFG. CPQLOCFG enables you to use RIBCL scripts that perform
firmware updates, iLO 2 configuration, and iLO 2 operations in bulk, securely over the network.
HP recommends that Linux users review the HP Lights-Out XML PERL scripting samples for Linux.

Scripting with HPONCFG – Download the HPONCFG component to get the host-based scripting
utility, HPONCFG. This utility enables you to use RIBCL scripts that perform firmware updates,
and LOM processor configuration and operations in bulk, from Administrator or root account
access on supported host operating systems.

HP Directories Support for Management Processors – Download the component to get the
directory support components. One of the components, the HPLOMIG, can be used to discover
iLO, iLO 2, RILOE, and RILOE II processors and update the firmware. You do not have to use
directory integration to take advantage of this functionality.

Diagnostic steps

Before attempting a flash recovery of the firmware, use the following diagnostic steps to verify that
flash recovery is needed:

1.

Attempt to connect to iLO 2 through the Web browser. If you are unable to connect, then there
is a communication issue.

2.

Attempt to ping iLO 2. If you are successful, then the network is working.

iLO 2 network flash recovery

The iLO 2 network flash recovery payload enables you to recover from a failed firmware upgrade.
The flash recovery payload uses FTP, which can only be used when the flash recovery payload is
active, to transfer the firmware image to iLO 2. The flash recovery payload must only be used if:

Previous firmware upgrade attempts have failed

You are unable to connect to the Web browser

If the iLO 2 firmware image is damaged, missing, or otherwise corrupted, then the iLO 2 flash
recovery process is used to re-flash iLO 2. The flash recovery process is for the sole purpose of
getting the system re-flashed. No other processes can run until the recovery process is complete.

Recovering from a bad iLO 2 flash image using network flash recovery

Perform the following steps to recover from a bad iLO 2 flash using network flash recovery:

1. Open an FTP session to the IP address or DNS name of iLO 2.

2. Log in to iLO 2 using the fixed username flash and the password recovery.

The username and password are case-sensitive.

3. At the FTP prompt, enter the put command, and the filename of the firmware image.

The following is an example of the entries used for the flash recovery process:

ftp 192.168.177.142

login: flash

password: recovery

put \iLO2_200.bin
