The word "Normal-VOL" in the above table means an internal volume or an external volume that
is not specified as a Dynamic Provisioning volume. Besides, external volumes refer to internal
volumes that are mapped to volumes in external storage systems by Universal Volume Manager.
DP-VOL is a virtual volume that is used in Dynamic Provisioning.
When ShadowImage and Copy-on-Write Snapshot share volumes, the capacity of the shared
volumes is added to ShadowImage usage capacity only once.
When a volume is used for multiple purposes, only the capacity of this volume is added to the total
volume capacity. There is no need to multiply the capacity of this volume by the number of purposes
it is used for. For example, if you specify a volume as an S-VOL, and use it as a reserved volume
by setting its reserve attribute, only the capacity of the volume itself is added to the total volume
capacity and there is no need for it to be doubled.
CAUTION: If you specify an XP Thin Provisioning volume as a P-VOL or an S-VOL, the capacity
of the pool used by the XP Thin Provisioning volume will require the XP Business Copy license
capacity. Information about the license capacity of XP Thin Provisioning volumes is not updated in
real time. Therefore, certain write requests may cause the data excess. Prepare the license capacity
corresponding to the pool capacity when you are going to use the XP Thin Provisioning volumes.
If the amount of data exceeds the license capacity, you can use the volumes for additional 30
days. Once 30 days have passed, you cannot perform XP Business Copy operations except deleting
pairs.
The following case examples should help you calculate the total capacity of XP Business Copy
volumes that will be used. The capacity of each volume is assumed to be 1. The colored volume
or volumes represent the volumes that are used.
Figure 21 (page 41) illustrates one reserved volume and one unreserved volume. In this case, the
total capacity of XP Business Copy volume in use will be 1.
