The Ashland trash rake is a knuckle boom device designed to reach into the depths of the

water and engage the bottom or toe end of the trash rack bars. An articulate rake at the

end of the boom sweeps the rack bars of any debris on its upward stroke. The debris may

be dumped into the sluiceway at the top of the rack or may be lifted and swung over to

either side and loaded onto a truck.

The trash rake is provided with a hydraulically operated drive to traverse the trolley on the

rails enabling the entire rack to be cleaned.

INSTALLATION

The Ashland trash rake is designed for installation onto railroad type rails provided by the

purchaser. A qualified engineer should approve the rails and their supporting beams. Care

should be taken to provide safe anchors for the rails and beams into the concrete. Ad-

equate lateral support of the beams must also be provided.

The trolley is provided with four restraining catches which insert onto the end of the rails

and are fastened to the trolley frame with four 3/4” bolts on each.

After installation of the trolley onto the rails and installation of the restraining catches, the

counterweights should be installed. At no time should the unit be operated without the

restraining catches or counterweights properly installed.

After connecting the main incoming electrical wire to the starter switch in the main electri-

cal box, test run the motor and pump momentarily to check the rotation. Indicator arrows

for rotation are affixed to the top of the motor coupler guard.

Two adjustable load control valves are installed at the outlet of teh control valve to restrict

the downward speed of the main boom and end boom. The initial setting of the valve is

set at four turns open. This adjustment may be varied by the operation; however, it should

never be operated while opened completely.

A flow control valve is installed in the oil lines on the top of the boom. It is used to slow

down the closing or curl movement of the rake head.

During the assembly and connecting of the hoses, the functions of the control levers should

be checked to obtain the operation as designed for each lever.
