introduction

safe transfers and

Care

Patients using the Posey Bed should be carefully monitored and cared for according to the

physician’s orders and the patient’s care plan. Given normal, routine care such as feeding or

toileting, this section addresses how to:

• Transfer the patient into the bed

• Access and care for patient in the bed

• Transfer the patient out of the bed

• Conduct “Quick-Check 10” before leaving patient unattended

Regular Daily Patient Care

Safe transfers and patient care inside the Posey Bed involve a number of factors including:

• Patient size

• Medical condition

• Disability

• Mobility

Transfers will vary for patients who are able to stand as opposed to patients who must be lifted to

or from the bed.

NeveR use a patient lift for transfer unless it has been tested to make sure there is enough

clearance under the canopy frame to do so safely. Using a patient lift that has not been tested by

the facility may result in damage to the canopy. The clearance of the opening side access panel is

46” W x 38” H (117 cm x 97 cm) (at bottom).
