Purpose

Procedure

To access safely and provide care to a patient in the Posey Bed including feeding, IVs, catheters,

respiratory therapy, positioning, visitors and medicating.

Make sure the patient is a safe distance from the side panel before accessing them. Serious injury

may occur due to the added distance if the patient falls when the bed is raised.

During patient care and transfers, lock all four (

4) casters.

NOte: Approach the patient gently to ensure they are comfortable and secure.

a. Zip panels completely. Check that zipper is

closed securely along the entire length of the

zipper.

b. Close the Quick-Release Buckle and tug at

the clip to make sure it is engaged.

1. Access the patient.

NOte: Raise bed for easy access.

2. Zip Up the Perimeter Guard.

NOte: This should only be used

when caring for the patient and the

side panel is in the open position.

3. Complete the patient’s care plan as

needed.

4. Close access panels.

5. Complete “Quick-Check 10” (see page 29).

a. Make sure area around the bed is clear of any

tripping hazards.

b. Ensure the four (

4) caster brakes are locked.

c. Unclip the Quick-Release Buckle.

d. Unzip ‘U’ side panel and secure to the top of

the canopy with hook and loop tabs.

a. Attach any IV lines, drainage tubes, and

monitoring lines as required.

b. Talk to the patient to make sure they feel

comfortable and secure at all times.
