Appendix B. Tube Installation

The stabilization brace should be firm to the ground without causing
significant soil compression.

Do not compress the soil such that normal water
infiltration into the soil is likely to be inhibited. This is
particularly important on clay soils.

WARNING

Insert the soil sampler polyguide.

Step 2 - Augering the hole

Insert the soil auger and force downward in a single smooth action by hand
until the resistance becomes too great.

Using a sledgehammer beat the auger into the ground all the way. Ensure
accurate blows are made such that lateral deflection of the soil sampler is
minimized. Do not compress the soil with the final blow.
