Controlling How the Camera Sets Exposure

Metered Area

In spot metering, exposure will be locked at the value metered in a 3-mm (0.12˝) circle
centered on the selected focus area. If closest subject priority (

67) is in effect, the

center focus area will be used to set exposure. In center-weighted metering, exposure
will be locked at the value metered in an 8-mm (0.31˝) circle at the center of the
viewfinder.

Adjusting Shutter Speed and Aperture

While exposure lock is in effect, you can change the following settings without chang-
ing the metered value for exposure:

The new values can be confirmed in the viewfinder and control panel.

14—AE-L/AF-L (

Depending on the option selected, the AE-L/AF-L button locks both focus and exposure
(the default setting), only focus, or only exposure. If you choose AE Lock Hold, expo-
sure will lock when the button is pressed and remain locked until it is pressed again.

15—AE-Lock (

155)

If +Shutter Button is selected for AE Lock, exposure will lock when the shutter-release
button is pressed halfway.

shoot.
