Sauces

Ingredients
30 g margarine
1 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic
500 g minced beef
Salt, pepper
1 can tomato purée (140 g)
1 can tomatoes
(drained weight 240 g)

Preparation
Put the margarine, chopped onion and garlic in a glass dish and cook on full power
for 3-4 minutes. Add the minced meat, seasoning, tomato purée, the chopped toma-
toes and their juice to the onion and garlic mixture.

Stir thoroughly and cook, uncovered, on full power for 9-11 minutes. Serve with
pasta, e.g. spaghetti.

Bolognese sauce

Cooking time: around 12-15 minutes

You can also cook rice and potatoes in your microwave oven. New potatoes can be cooked without water but they must be pricked
with a fork before cooking. With older potatoes, a little water must be added. Small quantities are cooked on full power only. For larg-
er quantities, begin cooking on full power, then reduce the power level for the remaining cooking time. For boiled potatoes, add 1
tbsp water for every 100 g of potatoes.
The potatoes should all be the same size to ensure they are evenly cooked.
Rice and pasta must not only cook, but also absorb water during cooking. For this reason, cook on full power to begin with, then sim-
mer on a reduced power level. For these foods, cooking in the microwave is not much quicker than conventional cooking. However,
rice cooked in the microwave is very light. Leave to stand, covered, for 5-10 minutes after cooking.
