Installing or replacing a memory module
Attention
Do not open your computer or attempt any repair before reading the “Important safety
information” in the Safety and Warranty Guide that was included with your computer. To
obtain a copy of the Safety and Warranty Guide, go to the Support Web site at
http://www.lenovo.com/support.
This section provides instructions on how to replace a memory module.
Note: Your computer has support for eight memory modules.
1. Open the computer cover. See “Opening the cover” on page 12.
2. Remove the air duct (the memory modules are located under the air duct).
3. Locate the memory-module connectors 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 . See “Identifying parts
on the system board” on page 9. If you are installing additional memory be
sure the retaining clips are open.
Note: If you are installing a memory module in the top memory slot, you must
remove the air deflector from the air duct.
4. Remove the memory module being replaced by opening the retaining clips. See
Figure 25 on page 34.
