3. Turn the monitor’s power on.
4. Turn the computer’s power on.
When you turn on the power, the computer automatically recognizes the

monitor and determines whether it is colour or monochrome.
However, the Windows Desktop appears on a display device that you used

last time to shut down your computer, if the display device exists when you

turn on the power.
To change the display settings, press Fn + F5. If you disconnect the

external monitor before you turn the computer’s power off, be sure to press

Fn + F5 to switch to the internal display. Refer to Chapter 5,

The Keyboard

for details on using hot keys to change the display setting.

Slim Port Replicator

In addition to the ports available on the computer, the Slim Port Replicator

provides, an external monitor port, four USB ports, a port for charging a

High Capacity 2nd Battery Pack, a LAN jack and a DC IN 15V jack. The

Slim Port Replicator connects directly to the docking interface on the

bottom of the computer. The AC adaptor connects the Slim Port Replicator

to a power source.

The LAN jack of the Slim Port Replicator supports Ethernet LAN

(10 megabits per second, 10BASE-T) and Fast Ethernet LAN

(100 megabits per second, 100BASE-TX). Gigabit Ethernet LAN

(1000 megabits per second, 1000BASE-T) is not supported.

For ports that cannot be connected using the computer’s connector,

connect them using the ports in the Slim Port Replicator.

The computer must be configured properly before connecting to a LAN.

Logging onto a LAN using the computer’s default settings could cause a

malfunction in LAN operation. Check with your LAN administrator

regarding set-up procedures.
