diameter of ca. 2-5 cm with a length of 25-33 cm. The load weighs about 2-3 kg. Always lay out the logs horizontally towards the rear of the furnace,
with those on top slightly crossed. (Picture 23).
Usually, a crumpled newspaper page, small, dry wood chips or an ignition piece are sufficient to get the fire going.

3.2.2 ADJUSTING THE HEAT OUTPUT

The heat output can be adjusted as follows: Using the air feed regulators (Picture 24), by adjusting the draught in the chimney with the damper plate
or with the amount of wood
Usually, you do not need to add more than three logs at a time. (Large logs burn longer, of course.)
Never close the damper plate too far or the fireplace starts leaking smoke into the room.

The fireplace has regulators for primary air (grate adjusted with 10 mm thick round axle (Picture 24)) and upper air (flat adjuster with arrow pointing
towards the opening direction). With these, the burning process can be regulated to your liking.
Slow burn:
Grate adjuster closed and upper air regulator about one quarter open.
Normal burn:
Grate adjuster and upper air regulator halfway open.
The draught in the chimney influences the required positions of the regulators, which means that these instructions depend on the fireplace's
location and environment.

3.2.3 HEATING

During the proper heating phase the logs should have a length of 25-33 cm and a diameter of 7-9 cm. A single loading should be 2-2.5 kg at a time,
which is about three logs.
Do not put too much wood into the furnace.
Always lay out the logs horizontally towards the rear of the furnace, with those on top slightly crossed. (Picture 23).
Once the wood has burnt down to embers, add a new load. You may spread the embers out on the furnace floor.

3.2.4 LONGER TERM HEATING

Before you add new logs, spread out the glowing embers on the furnace floor. Then add 2-3 large logs on top of them. Leave the leave the regulator
plate completely open to help the wood catch fire. Once it burns, you can shut the grate completely and leave the upper air regulator about one
quarter open. If the draught is still strong, close the damper plate a bit more – but not so much that the smoke leaks into the room.

3.3 MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

3.3.1 MAINTAINING THE GLASS DOOR

The glass is cleaned while it is cold. The easiest method is to use the efficient KASTOR NOKI-POIS cleaning fluid (available in hardware stores).
See instructions on the packaging.
Although the glass is hardened, it should be treated with care (do not knock it, slam the door etc.).

3.3.2 THE FIREPLACE AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

Maintenance on the fireplace is performed once it has cooled. Wipe off the dust regularly and when necessary wipe the surfaces with a rag dipped
in mild soap water (e.g. dish washing liquid + water). Dry with a dry rag.
The paint on the steel parts can be fixed with a heat resistant spray paint (available from the manufacturer).
Make sure the fireplace is cold before you paint it.
Keep an eye on the door's seals to prevent air leakages that might inhibit the burn process.
Clean the dust off the fireplace's base and surroundings regularly.

3.3.3 ASH REMOVAL AND CHIMNEY SWEEPING

Let the fireplace and ashes cool down before you remove the ashes.
Use a metal container, preferably with lid and store the ashes safely before you dispose of them.

Avoid fire hazard – make sure that the ashes are cold before you empty the container.

Remove the ashes once the layer has reached a thickness of ca. 2 cm. Close all devices that might cause low air pressure outside the fireplace
(e.g. exhaust air removers and range hoods). Ensure that the damper plate is closed when there is low air pressure in the room. The damper plate
may remain open during ash removal to prevent ash being blown into the room.
The fireplace has an ash box. The ash falls through the grate into the ash box, which is emptied when it gets full.
When the fireplace is used according to instructions, there is little need for chimney sweeping. The normal schedule is once a year.
The grate must be cleaned when the ash is removed.
The grate can be removed by lifting. During re-installing, remember to slip the grate's peg through the regulator's loop.
For fire safety reasons it is important to keep an eye on the soot accumulation in fireplace and chimney.

The flame regulation and side insulation plates must be removed during chimney sweeping.
The chimney is swept in the usual manner and the furnace walls are brushed clean with a steel brush or something similar.

If the chimney has been connected to the top of the fireplace, the soot falls into it and is removed in the same way as the ashes.
After the sweeping, the flame regulation plate is reinstalled.
