Remove the processor heat sinks.
Important:
Each heat sink is connected to the main logic board by small temperature
sensor
wires.
Be
careful
not
to
pull
on
the
wires
as
you
lift
the
heat
sink
enough
to
disconnect
the
wires
from
the
main
logic
board.
It’s
easier
to
reach
the
wire
connectors
if
you
start
with
the
heat
sink
closest
to
the
DIMM
slots.
a
Loosen the four screws securing the heat sink that is closest to the DIMM slots.
b
Slowly
lift
the
heat
sink
off
the
processor
just
far
enough
so
that
you
can
reach
the
sensor
wire
connector
on
the
main
logic
board.
You
might
feel
some
resistance
from
the
thermal
grease
that
binds
the
heat
sink
to
the
processor.
c
Pull
on
the
connector,
not
the
wires,
to
disconnect
the
sensor
wires
from
the
main
logic
board,
and
then
set
the
heat
sink
aside.
d
Repeat this process to remove the second heat sink.
Unscrew the heat sink and lift it only a short distance.
The heat sink is attached
to the logic board
by a pair of thin wires.
Detach the wires from
the logic board and
remove the heat sink.
