Chapter 3

Operation

NOTE

This chapter will cover the basic operation and
procedures for the Landoll Brillion Wing Float Pulverizer.
Be sure to read and understand the Safety Procedures
and Cautions starting on page 1-2.

Before operating your Brillion machine check all
hardware for tightness. Use the Torque Tightening Chart
as a guide. See page 4-1.

Transport Lock

To prepare the machine for transport, raise it fully and
place the Transport Lock over the Transport Axle Cylinder
Rod. Insert the Clevis Pin and secure with Hair Pin
Cotter. See Figure 3-2.

Field Operations

Once the Wing Float Pulverizer has been transported to
the field, remove the Hair Pin Cotter and Clevis Pin from
the Transport Lock and secure to the bracket at rear of
frame.

WARNING

Unfolding the Wings

On level ground, unfold the wings completely. Make sure
the Wing Cylinders are extended completely and the
Transport Axle Cylinder is retracted. See Figure 3-1.
Be sure the system is fully charged with hydraulic oil
before attempting to fold/unfold the unit. Air in the system
can allow uncontrolled dropping of the wing frames
causing serious personal injury or machine damage. The
system needs to be charged with oil initially and any time
the system has been opened for repair such as cylinder,
hose, or fitting replacement/repair.

To charge the system, carefully hitch the Wing Float
Pulverizer to the tractor. Unpin the end(s) of the fold
cylinders, and position them so they can extend and
retract without contacting any frames or other parts.
Check the tractor hydraulic fluid level to make sure it is
full of the manufacturer’s recommended hydraulic fluid.

Connect the cylinder hoses to the tractor and fully extend
and retract the cylinders several times. The cylinder rod
travel should be smooth and positive when all air has
been purged from the system. Due to large amounts of
hydraulic oil required, recheck the tractor fluid level to
make sure it is within proper operating limits.

The hydraulic manifold is equipped with flow restrictors to
prevent uncontrolled falling of wing frames when folding
and unfolding. Removal or improper settings of these
restrictors can cause the machine to fold or unfold
improperly and result in serious machine damage.

WARNING

NOTE

Wings should unfold first, then machine lowers. If not
reduce hydraulic fluid flow.

Adjust the Turnbuckle so that each Wing Roller is at the
lower 1/3 of its respective Guide Slot.

During field operations, it is not necessary to raise the
machine for turns, but turns should be made as wide as
possible.

NOTE

Prevent wheel breakage by reducing speed when
operating in rocky conditions.

Watch out for Overhead Electrical Wires and
other Overhead Obstructions when folding and
unfolding Pulverizer Wings.

Escaping hydraulic fluid can cause serious
personal injury. Relieve system pressure before
repairing, adjusting, or disconnecting. Wear
proper hand and eye protection when searching
for leaks. Use cardboard instead of hands. Keep
all components (cylinders, hoses, fittings, etc.) in
good repair
