3.1

What You Will Need To Know

A sound working knowledge of the following is required before
proceeding.

How to apply and remove hydraulic pressure to the system.

-

Apply and remove hydraulic pressure only when instructed to
do so.

-

Refer to the Operator's Guide for specific details regarding the
application of hydraulic pressure to the system.

For non-TestStar systems: always ensure the dc error is zero
before applying hydraulic pressure (refer to the following
warning).

WARNING

Failure to zero dc error will result in sudden actuator
movement.

This can cause injury to personnel and/or damage to
e q u i p m e n t .

Do not apply system hydraulic pressure with other than zero dc error
(command = feedback).

How to position the actuator rod and load unit crosshead.

Refer to the Operator's Guide for specific details regarding the
location and operation of the controls used to position the
actuator rod and load unit crosshead.

How to select or change control modes.

Refer to the Operator's guide for details regarding changing
control modes.

Whenever using the actuator rod during the installation of the
grips or a specimen, select the force control mode in the most
sensitive range available. If only displacement control is
available, use extreme care not to apply damaging forces to the
specimen or component.
