Operation

Operation of the Model 643 Tension/Compression Grips consists
simply of installing a button-end or threaded specimen using the
appropriate specimen adapter. To install a button-ended specimen
refer to Subsection 2.1. To install a threaded specimen refer to
Subsection 2.2. These procedures assume the grips have been properly
installed in the load unit as described in Section 3.

WARNING

Full hydraulic pressure is applied to the system and actuator
movement is required during specimen mounting.

This could result in possible injury to personnel and
damaging forces being applied to the specimen.

Use extreme care while performing the following procedures.

2.1

Installing Button-end Specimens

Perform the following steps to install a button-end specimen in the
Grip. The procedure assumes the Grip base has been properly
installed in the load unit as described in Section 3. This procedure also
assumes that the operator is familiar with all operating aspects of the
system electrical controller and interlock restrictions that apply to
starting the hydraulic power supply.

Equipment and materials required includes:

a torque wrench

MolyKote

®

G-n paste (part number 110102-07).

the button-end specimen adapter

WARNING

Failure to zero dc error will result in sudden actuator
movement.

This can cause injury to personnel and/or damage to
e q u i p m e n t .

Do not apply system hydraulic pressure with other than zero dc error
(command = feedback).
