Installation

NOTE:

If installing the grip on a force transducer perform
the force transducer alignment procedure (refer
to the appropriate load unit product manual) prior
to performing step 5.

5.

Clean the connector studs and the internal threads of the force
train element(s) with a wire brush. Inspect the mating surfaces
for signs of particle contamination or corrosion. All damaged
threads should be repaired or the element replaced.

6.

Apply a thin coat of Molykote

®

G-n paste to all mating surfaces.

7.

Place a small piece of compliant material, to act as a spacer,
between the grips and the connector studs.

8.

Slowly turn the connector studs into each grip.

The connector studs should turn freely. If any resistance is
encountered, disassemble and correct the problem before
proceeding. Use adapters if necessary. Avoid using stepped
studs.

9.

Place the spiral washers together, with the spiral surfaces facing
each other.

10.

Place one set of spiral washers on the end of the actuator
piston rod. Rotate the washers until they are fully closed
(minimum thickness).

11.

With the connector stud facing down, position the grip over the
threaded hole in the actuator rod.

12.

Slowly screw the grip into the actuator rod until it is snug
against the spiral washers.

13.

Place a spacer (a wood block or piece of plywood with a
surface at least as large as the diameter of the grip base) on top
of the lower grip base.

14.

Carefully lift the grip and place it on the spacer on top of the
lower grip.

15.

Place the other set of spiral washers over the upper grip
connector stud. Rotate the washers until they are fully closed
(minimum thickness).
