Door Interlock Circumvention
The door interlock mechanism is designed to prevent access to the
medium voltage cell while the unit is energized. When the unit
is in operation, do not circumvent this inter-locking safety feature.
Always disconnect and lock out incoming power (see Power
Lockout Procedure, page 2) before proceeding with any adjust-
ments requiring the handle to be moved to the ON (closed) position.
Failure to do so may result in electric shock causing severe
burns, injury or death.
This Appendix provides information on how to move the isolation switch handle
from the OFF position to the ON position while the medium voltage door is open.
The interlocking safeguards in the mechanism are designed to prevent the handle
from moving to the ON position while the cabinet door is open.
• To circumvent this safety feature, use a screwdriver, or other tool, to depress
the door interlock lever in a downward movement.
• Hold the lever down while moving the handle to the ON (closed) position.
