6. Troubleshooting

6.1. HEAT PROBLEMS

CAUTION

Power must be turned off at breaker box
before waterer is serviced.

WATER FREEZES IN PAN

Cause

Solution

Thermostat malfunction.

• Ensure there is power to thermostat, or if necessary,

replace thermostat.

Thermostat may not positioned prop-
erly against pan surface.

• Ensure heat-sensitive side of thermostat is completely

flush with the pan.

Faulty heating element/pad.

• Ensure element/pad is functioning. Check for power

coming into the element/pad.

Too much heat loss from inside
waterer box.

• Ensure inspection door is properly insulated and posi-

tioned and the pan is properly seated. Make sure the
base of the waterer box is sealed with weather-strip-
ping or caulking.

WATER OVER-HEATING IN PAN

Cause

Solution

Thermostat is unable to sense water/
pan temperature.

• Ensure thermostat is flush with bottom of pan surface.

Thermostat is touching the pan, but it is
still overheating.

• Replace thermostat.
