Setting Fertilizer Transmission

Refer to the Fertilizer Rate Chart on page 25 to find the
correct Transmission (Driver/Driven) sprocket sizes for
your drill’s row spacing and target (or adjusted)
application rate.

Refer to Figure 14

To change the Transmission setting:

Loosen idlers

and slide idler sprockets out of

engagement with chain.

72. Remove linch pins

from both sprocket shafts, and

remove sprockets.

73. Place correct Driver and Driven sprockets on their

respective shafts.

74. Store sprockets not used on ends of shafts. Re-

install pins.

75. Reinstall chain and engage idlers, allowing

inch

(6.4 mm) slack in the top chain span.

76. If this is the final setting, after calibration, repeat

step through step 65 for the right drill section.

Fertilizer Rate Calibration

Differences will exist between the tested fertilizer and
field conditions used to generate the Rate Chart, and
your fertilizer and conditions. To accurately achieve your
target application, Great Plains recommends calibrating.

Perform the calibration with the opener frames lowered
(if the openers are raised, the clutch disengages). Leave
the tractor hitched for movement control.

Estimate the sample sizes.
Take your planned application rate (in our example,

78 pounds per acre

and divide it by the row count of your drill

21 in our example.

The expected sample size is 4.8 lbs per row, or

14.3 pounds for 3 sample rows.

77. To perform this calibration, you need a scale that is

accurate near the aggregate sample size, and 3
light-weight containers, each capable of holding a
row’s sample.

78. Disengage the lock-out hub (see Operator Manual),

to permit independent rotation of the main jackshaft.

Refer to Figure 15

79. Remove the calibration crank from its storage stob

on the left top side of the main toolbar. Store the
retaining pin on the stob.

Refer to Figure 16

80. Place the hex socket of the crank on the left end of

the main jackshaft.
