Seed Rate Charts (this manual)
This manual relies on information found only in your
Operator’s Manual. Have both available when preparing
to plant.
Setting Planting Rate
There are four to six steps to obtaining the desired num-
ber of seeds per acre, some of which apply only certain
meter types, and particular row unit configurations:
1.
Know the characteristics of the seed
Consult your seed supplier’s reference documents.
2.
Install the correct seed meters and wheels
Consult your Great Plains dealer and see “Seed
Meter Setup and Adjustment” in the Operator’s
Manual.
3.
Adjust Finger Pickup meters for the seed
This only applies to finger pickup meters.
See “Finger Meter Adjustments” on page 42
4.
Sprocket index for staggered twin-row
On twin-row drills, with certain crops, get maximum
benefit with precise seed spacing between adjacent
rows. See “Sprocket Indexing (Stagger)” on
page 58.
5.
Set meter rate
Two sprocket sets are configured at each gauge
wheel:
a. range
b. transmission
6.
Check planting rate
See “Checking Planting Rate” for each meter type.
