Upgrading Your Operating System

Each upgrade kit is shipped with the new operating system media and a new
Certificate of Authority (COA) Product Key. Remove the COA label from
the upgrade kit and place the label over the existing COA label on your
system running Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 With SP2 x64 Edition.

Contact your Dell sales representative to obtain an upgrade kit.

To upgrade your operating system, perform the following steps:

1 Turn on your system.
2 When prompted, log in to Windows.
3 Open an Internet connection to your system.
4 Locate the Product Key that is provided with the upgrade kit. This

information is required to upgrade your operating system software.

NOTE:

The Product Key is located on the lower section of the COA. For more

information on the COA, see Definition of Terms for Microsoft Software
Owners
located at www.dell.com/ostechsheets.

5 Insert the Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 With SP2 x64 Edition

Disk 1 media into the CD/DVD drive.

The media starts automatically and the Welcome to Setup window appears.

NOTE:

Do not restart your system and boot to the Windows Storage Server 2003

R2 With SP2 x64 Edition Disk 1 media.

If the media does not start automatically:

a

Open Windows Explorer.

b

Locate the CD/DVD drive.

c

Right-click the CD/DVD drive and click AutoPlay.

6 Select one of the following and click Next:

Install Windows Server

®

2003, Enterprise Edition

Install Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition

7 In the License Agreement window, read and accept the license agreement,

and click Next. If you do not agree with the information, click Decline.
The system restarts and you are not able to complete the operating system
installation.
