Restoring Your Operating System

Storage Server R2 may be used interchangeably during the installation procedures,
in the upgrade process, on the System Properties window, and other areas within
the operating system. This is as designed by Microsoft. Refer to the Certificate of
Authentication (COA) or the Microsoft’s Knowledge Base article 915044 at
support.microsoft.com to determine the edition of the installed operating system.

You can restore your operating system using one of the following methods:

Using the Dell™ Systems Build and Update Utility media

Using the operating system media

The following sections provide information about restoring your operating
system using these methods.

NOTE:

The Remote Desktop Connection feature is not enabled by default in the

operating system. This feature must be manually enabled by the user during
reinstallation.

Installing Using the Server Management Media

The following technical information explains how to reinstall your
Microsoft

®

Windows Storage Server 2003 R2 x64 Edition with SP2 operating

system using the Dell Systems Build and Update Utility media.

The Dell Systems Build and Update Utility media installs the standard
operating system software and the Dell-specific device drivers that are not on
the operating system media.

NOTICE:

When you reinstall a software redundant array of independent disks

(RAID) configuration, both the operating system and data partitions will be erased.
When you reinstall a hardware RAID configuration, only the operating system
partition will be erased. Dell recommends that you back up your data before you
perform this procedure.
