Setting up RDA Backup to Dell™ DR4x00 Disk Backup Appliance on Dell™ NetVault

Executive summary

This paper provides information about how to set up the Dell DR Series Deduplication Appliance as a
backup target device for Dell NetVault (NVBU®) Backup™ software using RDA technology. This paper
is a quick reference guide and does not include all DR Series Deduplication Appliance deployment best
practices.

Abbreviations and Meaning:

RDA : Rapid Data Access, Dell proprietary technology for faster data access.

Dedupe Backup : In this mode Deduplication is done on the Client and then the deduplicated packets are
sent to DR Series Deduplication Appliance.

Passthrough Backup : In this mode Deduplication is done on DR Series Deduplication Appliance after
data is transferred from Clients and backup media server.
