Slide the drive assembly into the drive bay.

If you are installing a controller card, configure and

install it in a connector slot

now.

Install the card as close as you can to the drive cage.

Connect a power cable to the drive.

If you didn't install a controller card in

step 11

, remove the tape from the wide cable connector and reattach the connector to the original drive. Then

locate the extra connector on the cable and attach it to the new drive. Be sure that the wide cable is properly connected to the IDE connector on the
system board.

If you installed a controller card in

step 11

, attach the other end of the interface cable to the controller card rather than to the system board.

 

NOTICE:

Dell does not recommend routing cables over cards because the cables can restrict airflow, cause cooling problems, and interfere with

removing and replacing the computer cover. If you must route cables over cards, be extremely cautious when removing and replacing the computer
cover.

NOTICE:

When you attach the extra connector to the new drive in the following step, match the colored strip on the cable with pin 1 on the drive.
