Check and Update Port Information

The Port Information screen shows the current conditions for all ports in the 9151 with options to
view parameters and statistics for specific ports. Configuration information includes the model
number, description, and revision; the serial number; and link, remote fault, and physical status. You
must set up each port that you will use before you can set up or assign STP, VLANs, LAGs, or
Tagging. To access the Port Information screen, follow these steps:

1. From the Main menu, type

, "Port Information," and press <Enter>.

2. To view general information about a group of ports, type 1, "View Module," and press <Space>

to cycle through the groups of ports, then press <Enter>.

3. To view current status and set values for parameters for a selected port, type 2, "Port

Config/Status," then type the port name and press <Enter>; the XPx Information screen appears.
You can set values for these parameters:

• 1. Change Port: select another port for viewing
• 2. Admin Mode: enable or disable management through this port
• 3. Flow Control: enable or disable prevention of buffer overflow due to mismatched rates
• 4. Link Trap: enable or disable reporting of traps for this port
• 5. Physical Mode: Any combination of 10 or 100 MHz and half or full duplex or AutoNeg

(autonegotiates speed and duplexing)

• 6. LACP Mode: enable or disable Link Aggregation Control Protocol (IEEE 802.3ad)
• 7. Network LED: on or off; set port to indicate network or non-network service
• 8. Remote Fault: enable or disable RMTF alarms

4. To view current statistics for traffic through a selected port, type 3, "Port Statistics," then type the

port name and press <Enter>.

5. To return to the Main Menu, type

Set Up Spanning Tree Parameters

Use the Global Spanning Tree Parameters menu to set various STP parameters for the 9151 within the
network. Before you set values for STP parameters, you must set up the ports that you will use (see
"Check and Update Port Information" on page 3-18). To access the Global Spanning Tree Parameters
menu, follow these steps:

1. From the Switch Configuration menu, type

, "Global Spanning Tree Parameters," and press

<Enter>.

2. At the Global Spanning Tree Parameters menu, type the number for an item and press <Enter>,

then follow the prompts to set values for these parameters:

• 1. Admin Mode: Enable or disable STP protocol.
• 2. Version: Shows which IEEE 802.1 specification this meets; d = Standard, w = Rapid,

s = Multiple
