Shell Stitching
Smocking
The Shell Stitch ss formed by sewing a
blind hem over folded fabric. Several
rows of shell stitching are called shell
tucks.
Shell stitching can bs used to finish
hems, sleeve and neck openings.
Shell tucking can be used to create
scalloped
tucks
on
blouses
and
lingerie.
1. For best effect -
— set the stitch length as you
desire.
-------you may need to tighten the
top thread tension slightly,
------- allow the needle to just

2. If you sew rows of shell stitches,
space the rows 1/2" apart.
You can sew Shall Stitch on knits or
soft silky wovens in any direction.

Knot the threads along one edge. Pull
the bobbin threads and distribute the
gathers evenly. Secure the threads at
the other end. Sew the decorative
stitch between the gathering stitches.
Pull out the gathering stitches.
