stitching

with

an

embroidery

hoop

can

be

used

for

monograniming

and

decora­

tive

work.

You

sew

without

a

presser

foot

and

instead

control

fabric

movement

(and

hence

stitch

length)

yourself

by

means

of

an

embroi-

dory

hoop.

Designs

can

be

“etched”

by

out­

lining

with

short

running

stitches

or

filled

by

placing

stitches

close

together

with

a

back-

and-forth hoop movement.

PREPARATION

1.

Use

an

embroidery

hoop

iarge

enough

to

encompass the entire design.

2. Remove the presser foot.

3.

Remove

the

throat

plate

and

Insert

feed

cover throat plate.

4. Set stitch control dial to setting above

STITCHING A MONOGRAM

1.

Always

make

a

sample

first

to

find

the

right

stitch length and spacing,

2.

Trace

or

mark

lettering

on

right

side

of

fabric.

3.

If

fabric

Is

soft

or

loosely

woven,

add

an

underlay of crisp lawn or organdy.

4.

Place

work

in

embroidery

hoop.

Be

sure

the

fabric is held taut.

5.

Position

v/ork

under

needle

and

lov/er

the

presser bar to engage tension.

6.

Hold

needle

thread

loosely

with

left

hand,

turn

hand

wheel

tov^ard

you

and

bring

bobbin

thread

up

through

fabric

at

start

of

design.

Hold

both

threads

and

lower

the

needle into the fabric.

7. Outline lettering with short running stitches.

8.

Fill

letters

with

closely

spaced

stitches

using a back-and-forth motion.

9.

After

letters

are

filled,

outline

again

with

a

running stitch.
