All NIBCO Indicator Posts are shipped for use with “left-hand” (counter-clockwise) opening valves.
1. Remove the Target Assembly from the Head Assembly by rotating the Operating Nut (P-2) counterclockwise. See Fig. 1.

The Target Assembly will drop from bottom of Head Assembly.

2. Target Plates must be positioned with the OPEN Plate above the SHUT Plate for “left-hand” (counter-clockwise) opening

valves. See Fig. 4.

3. Loosen the Target Retainer Screws but do not remove them. See Fig. 4.
4. Position OPEN Target Plates so they are in the full upward position for “left-hand” (counter-clockwise) opening valves.
5. Determine the number of turns required to fully open the valve. See Table 1 for NIBCO valves. You should always con-

firm actual turns required to open the valve by counting them.

6. Using Table 2, choose the closest “Number of Turns to Open Valve” and the corresponding “Distance Between Targets”

dimension “X”.

7. Measure and position both SHUT Target Plates at dimension “X” from OPEN Target Plates.
8. Secure all Target Plates by tightening Screws.
9. Install Target Assembly into Head Assembly by threading onto Operating Nut (P-2). Continue rotating Operating Nut

until OPEN Targets are centered in View Windows (P-5)

10. Reinstall the Head Assembly by sliding the 1” square pocket located in bottom side of Head Assembly onto Operating

Rod (P-12). Secure Head Assembly to Center Body (P-16) with Eyebolt (P-10) and Bolt (P-11A).

11. Check to assure that the OPEN Target Plate is centered in both sides of the view window.
12. Fully close the valve using supplied wrench and rotating Operating Nut (P-2) clockwise. Check to ensure SHUT Target

Plate is centered in both sides of the view window.

Position the SHUT target as indicated below and tighten the retainer screws until snug. Avoid over tightening.

Repeat the procedure for the other side.

Open Right Valves

The procedure is similar as for open left, but with two differences:

A: The open target is placed

below the shut target.

B: The open target is placed at the very

bottom of the plate.

The position of the shut target above the open target is then determined and set as described above.

Maintenance

1. Lubrication

Lubricate upper bearing area at least once per year, by applying several drops of light machine oil or food grade
grease to the areas where the Operating Nut (P-2) contacts the Top Section (P-4).

Access to this area is gained by removing the Locking Wrench (P-1) and lifting upward on the Operating Nut (P-2).

2. Operation

The target mechanism will travel off the threads of the operating nut in both directions should the targets or

target mechanism be positioned incorrectly. Should this happen, readjust targets. If the target mechanism falls

from the operating nut, it will be stopped a short distance below the window.
