Chapter 5.
THEORY OF OPERATION
This chapter provides the basic theory of operation for the following components:

Monitor and Control (M&C)
•
High stability oscillator
•
IFLO
•
Synthesizer
•
Up and down converters
5.1
Monitor and Control
The RFT-1225 uses a sophisticated microcontroller module to perform the M&C
functions of the terminal. This board (refer to Figure 5-1) is located inside of the
RFT-1225, on top of the other assemblies.
The M&C monitors the RFT-1225 and provides configuration updates to other modules
within the terminal when necessary.
Terminal configuration parameters are maintained in EEPROM, which provides for total
recovery after a power-down situation.
Fault monitoring and status gathering are also provided.
All RFT-1225 functions are accessible through the local front panel keypad/display or a
remote communications interface.
