Charging

General remarks

WARNING! Risk of explosion from short circuits and arcs. Before connecting
to/disconnecting from battery, disconnect charging circuit from mains supply.
During operation, check that charging terminals and battery poles are properly
connected.

Charge the
battery

To start charging, proceed as follows:

1.

Switch off engine and ignition, shed all loads

2.

Connect (+) charging terminal to positive pole (red) on battery

3.

Connect (-) charging terminal to negative pole (black) on the battery, or to vehicle
body (e.g. engine block) in the case of vehicle power supplies.

NOTE! When disconnecting, it is imperative to follow the above instructions in
the reverse order in order to avoid short circuits and arcs.

4.

Charging circuit displays battery open circuit voltage

5.

On the charging circuit being used, move charging circuit switch to the „I“ position

6.

Charging circuit starts to charge

7.

Display on the charging circuit being used shows the current charge level as a
sequence of bars

Trickle charging

If there is nothing on the charging circuit display during test mode, the battery is in deep
discharge. The charging circuit recharges deep-discharge batteries with gentle pulses
over a long period. Disconnect battery from vehicle power supply/consumers before
charging.

Important! Only reconnect the battery to the vehicle power supply after:
-

the battery has been charging for at least one hour

-

the battery is at least 50% charged (2 bars)

50%

80%

100%

The charging circuit being used changes over automatically to conservation charging
once the battery is fully charged. The charging circuit continuously displays the fully
charged symbol (4 bars).

CAUTION! Risk of damage when attempting to charge a faulty battery. Before
charging, ensure that the battery to be charged is fully functional.

With trickle charging, consumer loads (e.g. lights) may be used during the charging
process. Note that
-

the power used over a long period is less than the charging current

-

the charging period is extended and the safety cut-out might therefore be activated.
